Why did League eliminate lineouts?

OK -- I understand the logic about the uncontested scrums and the six down system. I don't like necessarily like that logic, but I understand it. But why did Rugby League feel it necessary to eliminate the contested lineout after a ball goes into touch.

In 1895 when the Northern Union (Rugby league) was developed they played under the exact same rules as rugby union however between 1895-1904 the major rule changes of the game were added so that you could start to see the difference between the 2 codes..... The first major rule change was the abolishment of the Line Out in 1897...... This was replaced with a Scrum...... it was not replaced with a tap kick..... The main reson for changes to the game in this era was so they could establish themselves as a new league while rugby union was flouting claims that Northern Union was just a weaker version of there own game.....

I didn't know Rugby League had lineouts post modern game era. Providing you are correct, and in relation to logic, I'd suggest the tap and play after the defensive line resets 10 meters, makes a clear cut distinction between the code brands. Furthermore the scrum issue from Rugby League is still not right, Rugby Union in the scrum department have the wood over us at present.

It was to get it away from its rugby union roots.Like they also got rid of marking the ball in league.

Being an oldie, I liked the old fashioned competitive scrums and as player I much preferred unlimited tackle football. I also played rugby when tries were worth three points and you could kick out the full anywhere.
