Is this idea legit? Buy stuff on ebay.com for a fraction of what you can later sell it for on amazon?

I noticed that amazon.com typically has higher prices than stuff for sale on ebay.com. For example, product X costs 30$ less on ebay than it does on amazon. From there, I came across a money making scheme, but I want to know if it's legit. What I have done in the past week is place as many items on amazon.com's seller marketplace as I can, as long as those products could be bought by me for cheaper on ebay. So basically I have 4,000 or so items that I haven't bought yet, but am selling! My plan is that once an item is sold, I buy the exact same item on ebay, wait until it arrives to me, and then ship it off to the idiot who is buying it through my amazon.

I should also note that I have all my amazon products listed as the lowest prices, so I am selling cheaper than all my competition on amazon.

Either I am a genius that has just discovered the easiest way to make money online, or I am a compete fool.

You chose.

It is called reselling. AKA Buy low, sell high and has been around for thousands of years. I have done this before with cars. Buy a cheap car, spend a grand to fix it up, then resell the thing for a couple thousand more than I paid for it after the repairs.

People do this all the time to make money online. They buy cheaply from one site then resell it on another site. The problem would be if the seller on Ebay did not send the item to you, or did not send you exactly what you ordered, or it arrived broken. Then you will get screwed.

Instead you should just buy on Ebay and then list on Amazon as soon as it arrives at your door

And what happens when you get an order on Amazon, so you turn to eBay to buy that item and find that it's no longer available, or that the price has gone up?

Selling something you don't already own is an extremely risky business model.

Yeah a lot of people already do that. But just bear in mind, depending on what you're selling, it can be a long time before someone buys it on amazon. I recommend using the amazon FBA option so you can just let them take-care of it when it does sell.
