I got Counter Strike Source for free?

I just got Portal 2 for PS3 and decided to use the Steam pass and install it on my PC (first PC game). So I also downloaded the Steam app and decided to look through the free games section in the store. I remembered my cousine playing Counter Strike and decided to look it up, and saw it was free. About a month later I looked at the store page and saw it cost $20. What happened?

Update:

i downloaded it when it was free so im not too worried about it im just wondering what happened

Really? Well.. You might have gotten a free 2 day trial or something for the game. Today, it's on sale, not free. Weird.

Wait you saw it free recently? Not today? It might have been a free weekend last time. Steam usually does that with a lot of games. They make a game free from Friday - Sunday.

If you are searching for Counter Strike Global Offensive you can download it for free here: http://j.mp/1oh9CPr

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the last edition of the CS series and is one of the most popular online First Person Shooters. This team-based title consists of two different squads: terrorists and counter-terrorists, with different objectives in which you will try to take down the opponent.

    It's a very nice game.

Probably it was a promotion or something.

or it was just a add-on.

If it was free (full game) then you just missed your chance. LOL
