Is Rue Clignacourt safe to walk at night?

I need to travel out for dinner, and would be walking from Anvers Metro northerly to near Marcadet/poissonniers. This would be a weeknight around 8pm, and coming home around 11pm.

I agree with Honorine that Tin is being a bit overly dramatic.

The area around the Anvers Metro is quite safe, even though it is sandwiched between the Pigalle and Barbes de Rouchechouart areas - I even feel perfectly safe in the former, a little less so the latter late at nite. Being at the base of Sacre Coeur, it is a huge tourist area.

As long as you walk confidently and keep aware of your surroundings, you should be fine.

Is there any way you could take the M4 line to get a little closer to your destination??

LOL.Tin is always looking at the worst scenarios and events that took place ages ago.

I have rented a place near there last year and did not have any problems. Yes, there are some prostitutes and druggies but noone would touch a female walking alone at 8pm even if it was in the depths of the winter. You will not be attacked or raped. I have walked home at night and never have I even been approached. Take sensible precautions in Paris as you would in any very large city elsewhere in the world. Walk with assurance and if you see affray ahead of you do not walk into it. Ignore beggars and keep any money you carry well hidden (Bras are useful caches). Enjoy your meal .

If you feel insecure coming back alone at 11pm, take a taxi.

Paris is certainly one (if not) of the safest capital cities in the world. Of course you have to watch for pick pockets and always take normal precautions. There have been no physical attacks on visitors for many years. Almost two years ago a young American tourist was mugged late at night in a suburb outside of Paris. He was alone and it has never been established why he was in the area. The previous major crime to a visitor was about 13 years before

No; it is not safe at all, the tube stations you mention are around Barbès, Porte de Clignancourt, la Goutte d'Or which are the most dangerous neighbourhouds of Paris. Drug dealers, crime, prostitution, not at all safe to walk around.

If possible, find accommodation away of areas : Gare du nord, Gare de l'Est, Pigalle, Barbès, Clignancourt ... the North and East of Paris. Otherwise, don't go out at night. Taking the tube or the bus at those areas is also dangerous.

@honorine : I'm not speaking about events that took place so many years ago, I'm not that old. I've been attacked by drug dealers one year ago just out of Gare de L'Est, during day.

A friend of mine used to lived there and she decided to sell her flat after seeing in a repeated way things like a homeless who died at her door, a drug young lady who beg her for money, one of her neighbours flat robbed.

Another friend has been attacked while she was walking with her mother on the 9th district of Paris..

Crime in Paris has increased a lot since the financial crisis of 2008 and btw how many French have to leave the country because of unemployment and now live in London?

Taxis won't accept to drive him to Barbes or Porte de Clignancourt areas at night unless he book the cab by phone through taxis G7 or Alpha.

I've been twice to Brazil, Angra dos Reis and Rio de Janeiro, I used to walk around Ipanema for dinner with my family and have never been attacked but if statistics say a place is dangerous, I guess they're not making up a story.

Haha, it seems to me that you need to see the facts, here you are
