Rest in Peace Honeyboy ?

going with Martin on this.I met Honeyboy in 2007 at the Crossroads Festival.I went out to see him perform and as he was being walked to the performer's tent,I asked if we might have a picture together and was told that Mr.Edwards was very hot and he was tired.A few minutes later,the same guy came back and said that Honeyboy said it would be alright.I had two pictures taken of Honeyboy Edwards and myself.I thanked him and said I hoped to see him again.I never did and his kind will never pass this way again.A big piece of American music died and the pity is that he went mostly unknown.

When Bernie Pearl (brother of Ed Pearl of the famous Ash Grove) was still running the Long Beach Blues Festival in the early days, he added several ancillary events-a blues BBQ, a blues cruise, workshops, etc.- to the point where the entire Labor Day week was filled with events. Somewhere around the mid-80s, a Blues on Film event took place at the circa 1920s Art Theater. Honeyboy was one of the guests/panel members (along with Sunnyland Slim, Robert Lockwood Jr. and others). He must have been in one of the films, but I can't remember for sure. Les Blank was the presenter, and many of the films were his documentaries. Anyway, after the films, the panel took questions and related stories. Honeboy told about being there the night Robert Johnson was poisoned. You could have heard a pin drop while he spoke. The hair stood up on the back of my neck and I could picture the scene as if I'd been there. Afterwards, me and my girlfriend at the time spoke with him for a few minutes, and he was sweet and gracious. He thanked us for coming, for our interest, and for helping to keep the blues alive. That's the best thing we can do to honor him and all the others who've passed-help keep the blues alive.

Oh, sad! The first time I heard a Honeyboy song was on a collection of field recordings by Alan Lomax, but I never saw him perform live. My favorite Honeyboy tune is "Long Tall Woman Blues," with that smokey twang of his guitar.

Thanks for posting the news. Unfortunately I never did get to see him or the many others that preceded him in death. He was very fortunate to live a very long life though.

I was fortunate to see SRV twice and he lived a very short life compared to Honeyboy.

It sucks.

Sadly I have not listened to much of his music. Everything I Have heard was Fantastic. Like John lee hooker's music. I just don't get around to it.

I was supposed to hear him play not too long ago but he cancelled his set. Now that really sucks. Like Pinetop Perkins.

That is sad... I hoped that I'll be able to see him next year...
