HIGHSCHOOL PHYSICS HELP?
Vector A has a magnitude of 7.40 units and makes an angle of 52.5° counter-clockwise from the positive x-axis. Vector B has a magnitude of 8.00 units and is directed along the negative x-axis.
a) Using graphical methods, find the vector sum A+B:
Magnitude:
Direction: (counterclockwise from +x-axis)
b. Using graphical methods, find the vector difference A-B .

(a)
On a set of X-Y axes draw vector A from the origin at 52.5° above the horizontal x-axis, 7.4 cm long
From the end of Vector A draw vector B extending 8 cm horizontally to the left.
Draw Vector A+B from the origin to the end of Vector B
Check:
In Cartesian co-ordinates A = (7.4cos52.5, 7.4sin52.5) = (4.505, 5.871)
B = (-8,0)
so A+B = (4.505-8, 5.871) = (-3.495, 5.871) = 6.83 cm at angle 120.8°
(b)
Same as (a) except reverse the direction of Vector B (8cm horizontally to the RIGHT)
The resultant is Vector A-B.
Check
A-B = (4.505+8, 5.871) = (12.51, 5.871) = 13.8 cm at angle 25.15°
