I suppose [x] is the greatest integer function
Note that [nx] ≠ n[x]. You can prove it by contradiction. Suppose x = 1/2, n = 3. Then nx = 3/2, [nx] = 1, n[x] = 3[1/2] = 0.
So we can't simplify it to [nx] * [n+1]/2
Starring this question in hope of actual people who knows math can solve this.
