Usually shin splints build up over a little longer time than a couple days, so I don't think they are shin splints. You're leg muscles are probably just really sore, so I would rest it for a couple days, and then if its still really painful, see a doctor or something.

EDIT: ohh okay. Yeah it is definitely possible you have them. I would take a couple days off to heal it and if it doesn't get better in a few days, you should probably see a doctor or a physical therapist.

Ah, the dreaded shin splints. How I love them. Just kidding, I hate them, and by how painful they can be sometimes, I'd say they hate me too. I get them mostly the day after long, hard endurance classes, or after my first few days on the ice after a month or so's break.

As for you, it could be shin splints, and judging by how much you said you skated that morning, I'd say it's pretty probable. Did you have a really hard session? Did you forget to stretch and warm up before you got on the ice?

Having said that though, I can't diagnose you because I'm not a doctor. I can tell you from personal experience though that they tend to go away after a few days with help from stretching the sore muscles. If it is shin splints, try sitting down with your leg straight and pointing, then flexing your foot. That's a really easy one that can help a little.

Good luck, and I hope this helps!

You really need to read "Stop Shin Splints" by Gary Buchenic (also available in electronic format here: http://www.shinsplintscure.org/ ). It's about how to permanently cure your shin splints naturally. Worked for me and for thousands of people. Good luck!

Shin splints can be very painful. I used to get them often, when I went on my daily walking regimen. I was told that I got them from not stretching out before I went for my walks. Once I stretched out each day before walking, the painful shin splints stopped. Gentle stretching out, is best & it'll keep you from tearing muscle.
