It all makes sense once you understand one simple fact: It's all BS. The whole 2012 end-of-the-world thing was invented by nut-jobs and is believed by people with no grasp of reality.
There is no Mayan prophecy.
There is no rogue planet.
There will be no "pole shift".
There will be no rare astronomical alignment with the centre of the galaxy.
There will probably be no unusual solar activity.

First you tell me how the hauled 80 tons blocks up the side of 12,000 ft Andean Mountains. Then tell me how every ancient culture knew about space without telescopes or higher math. Then....then tell me how they get the wholes in chex mix.
2012 isn't the 'world ending' according to the Mayans. The believed in all these levels of consciousness, and 2012 is the human consciousness as a whole ascending to the next level. This ascension changing humans so drastically to 'end the world as *we knew it*'.
There is also debate about exact date. There are several ways to interpret the starting date of the calendar, and subsequently the end date. Some put it at October of this year!
We view the world as having 'four corners' in this day and age. There is the east, west, north, and south. We also know, though, that earth is really round...but it's easier for us to think in east, west, north, and south...so I'm not really sure what you mean by that.

Throughout history, some people have claimed to know exactly when the world was coming to an end -- and in every case they were wrong. There is no reason to believe it will be different with this prediction (if in fact it even is one -- which many scholars doubt).
Only God knows the future, and the most comforting truth I can tell you is that the future is in His hands -- and His hands alone. Yes, some day the world as we know it will come to an end -- but not one second before God causes it to happen. In that day, Christ will return to earth to overcome all evil and establish His kingdom of perfect peace and justice.
When will that be? Jesus warned us not to make guesses or firm predictions, because "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father" (Matthew 24:36). At the same time, the Bible does tell us that certain things must take place before Christ returns -- and many of those are happening today.
The most important question, however, is this: Are you ready for the day when you must stand before God -- either because of death or because of Christ's return? Don't dodge that crucial issue, but make sure of your salvation by trusting Christ and giving your life to Him today.

The answer is simple. They never said anything about the world ending in 2012. It's all an invention by a bunch of crackpots who think that calendars reaching round numbers means some sort of disaster. 2000 was a failure, so they're trying again.

this year glacial ice the size of a state broke off. next year another is expected to break off roughly the same size, if not slightly larger. is the world going to end? no, only the world as we know it. mayan calendar expires. we can only guess whether the calendar resets itself & @ what specific point, or if someone else must come up with another calendar & where in this world that special person with special knowledge and special authority will award it to. my best guesses are jamaica, or hawaii.

Good Point!
Also, they did not predict their own demise either, Since they are long gone.
To me it's like any other Calendar, ours mostly ends at the end of each year.
It is never meant as the end of time.
I have also heard of the Mayans studying the Constellations, Planets aligning with other planets, and perhaps there are alignments on that day, but I believe it is being misinterpreted as the end of the World.
Best Wishes,
Makkie

The Earth DOES in fact have Four Corners. Located between Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.
