I think everyone throughout the world except for children should be able to grow their own weed. I think teenagers should learn about growing weed to really get an appreciation for nature.
Edit.
There is a lot of people now using it, more than you think. They ain't growing it. Someone has to grow it and where do you think that money goes? Gangs, what do you think they use that money to buy? Drugs like cocaine and Methamphetamine.
Edit 2
Is it a crime to feel good? Why is smoking a harmless herb to achieve a euphoric calming feeling frowned upon? Am i supposed to go to a bar and get hammered, black out, get laid, puke, in any order and wake up in the morning someplace with no memory, a pounding headache and generally feeling like sh*t. Why is this so socially accepted?

Sure because that's what poor people need, a drug that makes you want to sit around and listen to music all day.
Maybe it would be better if we taught them how to grow their own coffee beans?
EDIT
Re: Additional Details
Nothing, if that could even happen with our current tax laws. Even if they pay their bills without food stamps or other means-tested government aid, poor people get more back on their tax returns than they paid in all year. It's still welfare.
While correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation, there's plenty of evidence that pot lessens drive, and it takes drive to rise out of poverty.
@incognito: You might be right and there's an added benefit too. Less people will be pressuring the government for jobs.

The problem is that if it were legal to grow then there would be lots more people growing and using it.
