You can get CPR and First Aid certification from more than a few places in New Orleans. The Red Cross, American Heart Association, National Safety Council, and American Safety and Health Association are all good options, however you should know which card you need before going and getting the most expensive certification out there.
If you're a Healthcare Provider i.e. Nurse or EMT, most hospitals and staffing agencies will only accept the American Heart, or Red Cross card. They can range from about $45 to $110 for the BLS Healthcare Provider card. Depending on where you go for training.
If you're a personal trainer, childcare provider, lifeguard, ship's captain, substance abuse counselor in Louisiana, you can get a card through ASHI. These more affordable classes start at around $30-$35. Again, depending on which company you choose to teach the class, the price will vary.
Independent instructors and companies teach the class & issue cards through these national organizations.
I've just named a few of the occupations that accept ASHI, there are many more. If you just need a basic CPR Card and AED training with a nationally recognized card, the link below is a good training center with decent prices, and they come to you. They also teach the Healthcare Provider course.
Also, beware the websites offering online certification. If your job requires 'hands on training' with a mannequin & defibrillator, you'll still have to find a class to go to, and be evaluated by an actual instructor afterwards. (and they will charge you)
In other words, the online cards are a waste of money. In addition, they DO NOT provide any sort of legal protection if someone decides to sue you for breaking ribs, or the xyphoid process, or if anything else goes wrong while administering CPR. Go with a reputable instructor.
Hope this helps.
