apply to out of state colleges?
Hello! I am a senior in high school beginning the college application process and I want to pursue veterinary in college. I live in Southern California & I really want to experience somewhere east coast (like NYU) with actual seasons, meet a diversity of new people, and be in a whole new environment. I really want to break out of my warm climate californian bubble and go somewhere new!
The problem is, my parents are both unemployed and my dad handicapped. We're not in debt, but we are still struggling financially & getting financial help from relatives.
My sister attends UCLA and insists that I apply in-state(to a UC or CSU) to save much money, and also the fact that I could experience a whole new culture anywhere else in Cali, like nor-cal.
Am I being selfish in wanting to attend an out of state school? Is it possible to attend an out of state college with help from FAFSA & pell grant without being in huge debt? or is staying in state and applying to UC or CSU always the wiser choice?

In this economy, in-state is the way to go. Out of state tuition is SO FREAKIN EXPENSIVE! I lived in Colorado while in high school and I also wanted to go to the East coast. I went to a school in Virginia and let me tell you, it was really difficult. I couldn't bring anything on the plane because it's too expensive so I had to buy everything there and THAT added up, then my roommates all lived on the East coast so they were able to go home on the weekends. I couldn't do that. I missed my family sooo much and the culture is kind of different but not really. In general, people on the East coast just seemed.... not as nice I guess? I did meet a lot of really awesome people but I missed my family too much and I only lasted one semester. Maybe it was the college I was at, but it was incredibly difficult going out of state. Perhaps you're a stronger person than me but I didn't really think it was worth it. I definitely wish I'd stayed in-state and saved some money and time.

you may finished all the CalState A-G standards to be frequently happening into any CSU campus. which skill you may make up that Algebra II course at your HS or take an analogous course at a community college. until eventually you arise with a minimum of $60,000 in funds, you have not have been given any danger of being waiting to arise with the money for going to any SUNY or different out-of-state public college. You extra useful tell your self regarding the in line with annum optimum in Federal pupil loans which you would be able to get. you may as properly forget approximately approximately going out-of-state for something -- it incredibly is not a call which you have. the optimum loans you will get won't even conceal any CSU until eventually you reside at domicile and paintings area-time. Your in simple terms right danger of being waiting to arise with the money for college in California would be to attend a close-by community college to prepare for flow to a CSU or UC, depending on college GPA for flow, whilst nonetheless residing at domicile if in any respect conceivable. the value of residing independently is in simple terms not funded with the aid of federal loans considering the fact which you will exceed the optimum fees, until eventually your loved ones is undesirable and you qualify for the optimum in State college provides and Federal PELL provides, otherwise, each and every dollar of your loans would be necessary to cover the in-state training and expenditures on my own. in case you do not make up that math type to have 3 years of HS credit, then community college would be your in basic terms decision, considering the fact that no CSU is going to settle for you without it. the placement with getting instructions stands out as the comparable at SUNY, so your reasons for going out-of-state are not valid after all. you may as properly learn ideal now that what you love to do and what you would be allowed to do are 2 a number of issues.
