My Dog ate a chocolate bar?

My 1 year old dog she ate a small/average single kitkat bar (the one you get in a multipack) and i'm pretty sure that's a bad thing.

I've gone all over the internet and i'm aware of the effects, (i'm the only person in my family who cares about her and is worried if i should take her to the vet). Not vomiting/bladder/heart rate or increased hyper(NO EFFECTS OF YET). She has eaten small chocolate before eg. small packets of penny sweet chocolate, fudge and other small wafers. She still doesn't realise after months of telling off that she is not meant to do it, so i need to know will she be alright. I'm in no position to take her to the vets.(I'm only the child) thank you so much!

Update:

Thank you for all of your answers! my parents won't take her to the vets so i'm just going to have to keep an eye on her. She's laying on the sofa at the moment so i'm guna have a look. Thank you all so much xxx

Same thing happend to me, besides the whole keep an eye on her, she should be okay.

Since the amount she ate is under a pound, and assuming your dog weighs about 20, the amount she's ingested in not considered a "toxic dose". However since I'm assuming it's happened in the past hour, I would suggest to induce vomiting just to be on the safe side. If it's been past 2 hours then watch out for symptoms of her panting, increased urination, diarrhea or vomiting. If she shows any of those symptoms then look up the number for the 24 hour emergency pet services in your state.

if you do induce vomiting to your dog please use 3% hydrogen peroxide and administer 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of your dogs body weight.. BUT from past experiences and since this isn't such a severe case PLEASE DO THIS: just give her some milk and egg whites, not the yolk and feed it to her. If she throws up, that is a good sign of her body getting rid of the toxins!

    Good luck!!

I'm guessing the worst case is that she'll get a tummy ache and her heart rate may go up a bit just because chocolate has caffeine in it. I'd be really worried if she consumed a baker's chocolate bar (the large chocolate bars in the baking isle).

I have a 75lb pit mix who decided it'd be alright to drink mom's Venti extra strong chocolate coffee. His heart literally almost came out of his chest, thank God he was okay! It definitely made me more serious about teaching him the "leave it" command and training him to leave foods in the house alone unless given --- now we just have to get him to do the same outside. -.-

And please DO NOT EVER give your dog milk. Dogs are lactose intolerant they cannot digest the calcium and can actually make their tummy more upset than it already is. Not to mention the digestive issues it causes later in life.

No, regardless of 70% darkish, a single bar will do no longer something in a dogs that super. Do call your vet, nonetheless and ask an analogous question: you will experience extra proper approximately it. And remember, grain alcolhol is poisonous to human beings yet we are able to beneficial drink an incredible sort of beer devoid of loss of existence. Chocolate is only mildly poisonous to dogs.

Probably just fine. My dog as eaten LOADS of chocolate (sneakily stolen chocolate and stuff) and shes fine. I wouldn't worry at all! Although, as you know the side effects, if any of these happen just tell your parents that something is wrong.

Well, Hope Ive Helped :) xxxxx Best Wishes and by the way she sounds lovely :)!!!

If your family won't do anything about it there's not much you can do. I'd recommend keeping an eye on her and if she starts showing any signs of being sick tell your parents. Make something up if you have to like telling them you read about the symptoms online or something. Eating chocolate doesn't necessarily mean she'll get sick, but it's definitely not worth the risk. For future reference, keep all chocolate out of reach by any means necessary. You can yell at thee dog all you want, but to them it's food and tastes good so they'll still try to get at it if they think they can get away with it.

it depends how big your dog is because dogs can have chocolate with barely any side effects if it is a tiny amount

personally i'd take her to a vet just to make sure because it can save worrying and could prevent worse things from happening i guess

yes theobromine are poisonous for dogs but chocolates only contain small amount of theobromine, so im sure a small chocolate piece would not do any harm at all. Best wishes.....

She will be fine because only the coat of it is chocolate the rest is just biscuit which is fine so he will be fine but I wouldn't do it again

it is unlikely that she will be harmed. My dog once ate about 10 to 20 Easter eggs, she wasn't harmed at all.

Check for all symptoms on the internet, if she is showing any symptoms then take her to the vet, but if she isn't happy days! ;) oh and please please PLEASE keep chocolate out of her way! It could be a lot serious if she ate a lot more as chocolate is poisonous to dogs :(
