Can you use cooked meat to make jerky? Or does it have to be raw?

we have some oven cooked roast beef (packaged and sealed). It is probably cooked to med-well. Can we slice this and use it to make beef jerky?

    No its raw then they hang it up and let it dry out

    Jerky is made from raw meat..........
