Cow milk has a very high sugar and fat content, milk kittens get from mother cats is low in fat and has almost no sugars. Cat stomachs can't digest cow milk very efficiently and it often causes severe diarrhea especially in kittens. They can get very dehydrated when they have diarrhea, putting them at risk.

If a cat can tolerate milk (not in huge quantities) it's ok to give them some, but be aware that if stomach upset starts you have to stop the milk giving immediately. They are 'lactose intolerant' in regards to cow milk.

Some cheese is processed in a way that alters the fat content enough that it causes no problem. Cottage cheese is one, cream cheese is another (though the sugars are higher in that one, don't give it to a diabetic cat). Mozzarella cheese is ok too.

Farmers give barn cats milk from the cows all the time.

We always gave our barn cats milk from the cows when we milked and nothing ever happened.I still give my cats a bit of milk.

Most cats are lactose intolerant. Some aren't. You can buy lactose-free milk..
