Is the VA(Veterans Affairs) Hospital overwhelmed?

Think about it, you have the WW2 veterans, Korean veterans, Vietnam veterans, Gulf War veterans and the now returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. There is even a small number of WW1 veterans still alive and in care of the VA.

How do they handle this

Well as a VA worker, I can help. First we have no WWI vets left in the system. Very few WWII vets left. The rest are either outpatient status treated at CBOCs or taken care of in regular facilities. A lot of our vets are housed at domiciliary units or at homes contracted on the outside. We still have homeless vets, but these are usually ones that do not want structured living. We have as of late had to cut back on many services as we are operating in the hole. Fiscal year for us starts on Oct.1 however I believe that we will start out about 25 million in the hole. We have been forced to shut down many facilities because the money and the demand were just not there.

Its pretty bad, well here in Houston anyway. I try and make a routine appointment and there always seems to be a month.month in a half wait before they can see me and don't bother even try to make a dental appointment, 6 month or greater wait.
