Can you get DVD players that work region 1 and 2 etc?

    Yes.

    It has been possible to buy multi-region DVD players in the U.K. for about the last 10 years or so.

    Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer etc. all make them and you can buy them from almost any high street electrical retailer.

    Most manufacturer have stopped producing stand alone DVD players due to the Blu Ray disc player will also play the DVD. The only model I know of that is a universal player is the OPPO 93 that sells for $499. You might find a used one on ebay. The reason for player being sold with regional code is to prevent coping. Hope this will help you out.

    A lot of dvd players have an unlock code you can use to unlock them. If you do a search for <model> region unlock you can find out how to unlock it.

    They are generally navigate to a specific menu screen and press a sequence of buttons on the remote.
