Is it ok for dogs to eat rabbits?
My two rat terriers love running through the field chasing ground squirrels and rabbits (as that is what they are bred for). Now the rabbits are very quick but the dogs are getting better at their team work. If they did ever catch one and try to eat it; would it harm them to do so? Parasites and what not?
They are current on all their shots. And they love the exercise!

Catching a rabbit is a minimal health risk, eating it would be a bigger one. Generally, dog's don't immediately eat what they catch, so you should have time to take it away. Wild animals, particularly small ones, should always be considered to be carrying internal and external parasites if nothing else. Check for ticks when you get back home and throw any bodies away where the dogs can't get to them. Also check local laws, in most areas it is legal for dogs to chase and kill small game like rabbits, but sometimes it is considered a form of poaching.

There is no "safety" problem at all if your dogs are up to date on their shots, and you reliably give them their worming treatment (as should be done anyway). Dogs would find fresh rabbit quite tasty, though I admit the thought of my dog tearing apart a rabbit on the front lawn is a bit gross and from a purely aesthetic view, I wouldn't let them do it!
However I also wonder about the behavioural aspects too. If they get used to shredding cute little live things so they can eat them, I'd be a little concerned about having them around very small children. A well disciplined dog should be smart enough to determine between humans and game meat, but there could always be that nagging doubt.

You may want to keep an eye on to see if they seem to get constipated from the fur and/or bones. If possible don't let them eat the bones, they can splinter and insure the gut. However .... that is what dogs do and they'll do fine. If they do get constipated you can give them milk. They are lactose intolerant. It will not poison them, but will give them the squirts and so help with the constipation. Make sure you de-worm them regularly, because they will pick up parasites from the mice, rabbits aso.

Better for them to eat a live one than a decomposing dead animal-sorry just the truth. As long as your dogs are current on their shots and taking heartworm there shouldn't be any mahor problem, heartworm covers all kinds of parasites but check what kind you are giving them to see what ones it targets, as not all do. I'd try to keep it at a limit though because I would worry about bones or too many bunny dinners making their stomach upset?

As long as the dogs have all the shots required of outdoor dogs and are de-wormed on a regular basis, you have nothing to fear from them eating live game. My own dog survived by eating cats when he ran wild. He also ate gophers, snakes and insects plus gawd only knows what else, and he did not have the benefit of any vet care at the time.
Four years in my care and the dog is the picture of good health.

Whuuuud....seriously? No. If u want ur dogs on a raw meat diet then u should buy them some meat from the grocery store. Even then u would have to sterilize it. Wolves can eat a wild rabbit. I wouldn't let my dogs regardless of their shots being up to date. It's too risky. And once they eat that raw bloody meat, say bye bye to them ever wanting Science Diet.

It won't hurt them. My dogs eat a bunch of things like that.... And some unidentified things they drag up. :-P

I would assume it'd be okay. Though I don't know if they'd actually eat it rather than play with it.
