what aquatic animal, not bird, makes a rhythmic honking noise?

I live in central Florida and there is a canal that runs along side my house. Everyday I hear this honking sound I guess you could say. It always happens 5 times rhythmically and then it stops and sometimes I can hear a response down the canal. I have searched the internet to try and figure out what it could be but I have yet to find a match. I don't think it could be a frog or toad because it sounds far too deep, and I compared the sound to an alligator mating call and still no match. Someone please help because it's driving me crazy not knowing what it is...

Update:

Ok, it's fresh water so I know it can't be a dolphin and I'm positive it isn't some kind of bird because it happens day and night and I have never seen any kind of birds in or near the water. I'm pretty sure that if it was a goose I would be able to identify the sound because it would be familiar to me but this noise is seriously driving me crazy. I almost want to go down there to have a closer look but I'm afraid of snakes and gators lol. Thanks Guys.

What you could be hearing is a dolphin's call bouncing off buildings or was in a way that you hear it as a honking, there are few animals that make sounds similar to each other.

    I was thinking seals,but you wouldn't find them in a canal...why can't it be a bird exactly?

That sounds like a goose, are you absolutely sure that it is not?
