Would I be labeled a racist if I wore a german WWII officer's hat around a small town in USA?

What do you think would happen if I wore my WWII german officer's hat around town?

I have 5 German WW2 tattoos and only once has anyone said anything negative about them. I have gotten several positive comments about them. For the most part people don't even pay attention to them. I don't treat anyone badly due to their race. I get along great with black people, I really don't understand why so many white people hate blacks so much. In my opinion the true enemy is the US government, which does nothing to stop illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is what will cause our country's downfall, NOT black people.

Probably not so much racist as being thought of a Nazi or Neo-Nazi or member of a hate group, which you are hopefully not.

But why would you? Wearing things of a certain era always evokes feelings in the ones forced to look at the wearer. Wearing a hat or helmet from the Nazi era makes people think you endorse a time of disgrace. It makes people fearful and angry. If you had a grandfather who was wounded or killed fighting in WWII, your family would be saddened.

And not many Americans are aware of the fact that in modern Germany such a person would be looked at with disdain. There, no one in their right mind would wear a Nazi military hat or helmet, not even those Nazi motorcycle helmets you see here. (Of course, there, just like here, there are always the crazies who want to provoke upset). But there, wearing uniforms, whole or in part, or obtaining/owning the book "Mein Kampf" is still illegal to my knowledge. This is not a matter of personal freedom but a matter of limiting the tools of hate.

Peace and freedom are brittle values and you have to treat them with respect. My advice, sell the hat and use the money for something more meaningful. It will make YOU a better person, and the small town may never know what they missed.

I would advise against it, I wouldn't say it is a racist Statement but it may be construed as having sympathy for what Germany stood for in the second world war. Master Race, killing millions of innocent people, torture and naked aggression.

Also remember there are still a fair number of veterans around who may have been fighting the Germans and what they stood for in that time, if they lost a friend in combat, they may have an issue and their grandchildren may get involved.

If you are going to wear it, I'd wear a good pair of running shoes as part of your outfit.

I think people would stare at you and label you a racist. You might also get some who just think you look stupid. But for the most part people will be too much a coward to do anything physical.

It depends how you wear it and where you wear it.

    Non Offensive:

    1. Part of your personal garb because you are Mr. or Ms. Artsy Fart

    2. Costume party

    3. Within your group of accepting friends

    Offensive:

    1. Local VFW post

    2. Military communities

    3. In the presence of WW II Veterans

    4. In or near synagogues

    5. Illegal to wear such items in the country of Germany

Funny thing of it all. Hitler's army would have killed any American during WW II, even if they believed in his policies.

A racist wouldn't need to wear that uniform. A small town probably wouldn't be as offended as you think.

Probably the same that would happen to a Jack Russel in a Rottweiler fight.

Why would you want to? (That belongs with questions like "if I stick my tongue in a live outlet, will I get shocked?" "if I jump into a freezing cold river on a hot summer day, will I have a heart attack?" and "if I shoot someone point-blank in the head, will it do grievous injury or kill him or her?")

Uh, most likely, lol. I don't get why you would want to do that in the first place?
