All sorts of stupid predictions of disaster have been made by nutcases to coincide with certain configurations of the tiny and harmless Comet Elenin. Check the dates off as they pass by with nothing happening:

September 10th: Comet closest to the Sun. Nothing happened. Check.

September 14th: Comet passed through the plane of the Earth's orbit. Nothing happened. Check.

September 26th. Comet in conjunction with the Sun. Nothing expected to happen (at least by sensible people).

October 16th. Comet closest to Earth. Again, nothing expected to happen.

Remember the failure of all these crackpot predictions when you read more of the same about 2012.

The problem with trying to make predictions like (oh there's a planetary alignment that means there will be an earthquake somewhere) is that it is completely unhelpful.

Just look at the frequency of earthquakes measured by actual geologists who do real science:

    http://www.iris.edu/seismon/last30.html

You see there are usually two or more earthquakes every day somewhere around the world - only the really big ones hit the news but earthquakes are currently unpredictable. Let's just remember all the other times astrologers have predicted earthquakes and those earthquakes failed. Most notorious was the super moon prediction of a massive earthquake and an earthquake happened nearly two weeks earlier - completely wrong! It just goes to show that such predictions are unreliable.

There are NO astronomical events of significance predicted for September 26. As for "disastrous events" like earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis, these happen all the time, practically every day, and cannot be predicted in advance. Name a date, ANY date, in the future, and it's almost guaranteed that there will be an earthquake, hurricane, or tsunami SOMEWHERE in the world.

Waitaminute, I thought it was on Sep. 15th...

I remember at least TWO separate people attending this forum claiming that there would be a "huge earthquake" on Sep. 15th. They didn't mention the magnitude though, but anyway earthquakes did happen on that day -- the same as in any other day. http://www.oe-files.de/gmaps/eqmashup.html and the same way there will be earthquakes today, tomorrow, and so on -- because that's what Earth does.

And now you say it's on Sept. 26th.

Come on, make up your mind! You can't "predict" Apocalypses for every calendar day, can you?!

    Hmmm maybe you can... http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm

    <QUOTE>very strong earthquakes </QUOTE>

    *HOW* strong?

    <QUOTE>tsunomi</QUOTE>

I don't know what is a tsunomi, but it looks close enough to tsunami. Anyway, because earthquakes happen all the time, and most of them in the sea (simply because the earth surface is mostly covered by sea), the possibility of having tsunamis is always present. You don't need doomsdays for that.

    <QUOTE>and severe winds</QUOTE>

You mean like as it happens every time? Yes it can happen. Where are you expecting severe winds?

The comet Elenin seems to have disintegrated. as properly, in accordance to truly scientists who surely understand what they are talking approximately, it by no potential replaced into any form of threat. the only ones fomenting approximately this unremarkable (and now long gone) comet are the woo-woo people who can not tell the adaptation between a celebrity and a planet. Earthquakes are led to via plate tectonics, no longer celestial bodies. The Moon is the closest merchandise to the Earth, and is there any evidence that IT motives earthquakes? No. So how would desire to a tiny comet hundreds of thousands of kilometers away try this? "Alignment" isn't an astronomical term. you are able to draw immediately traces between any gadgets, and that they have got not got any meaning in any appreciate.

Ask yourself this: Who told you this story and where did HE get it from? If you follow the trail, you'll see that it is made up.

Of course, there COULD be an earthquake somewhere on earth on Sep 26 2011, but if it does, then it would be purely coincidentally!

I would gladly take on bets that we won't get strong earthquakes AND severe winds AND tusnamis and so on at the same time.

I am going to predict disastrous events every day for the rest of my life. When one of them finally comes true, I will be heralded as a genius!!!!!!

Seriously, if these people could actually predict the future then now and again you would think that disaster wouldn't be the headline. Its just what draws attention.

That event was predicted by a Religious Nut Case. He has been predicting the end of the earth for years now and has never got it right.
