What is the nearest airport to Aberystwyth, Wales?

Presently, Swansea is the nearest airport, light aircraft only. Birmingham International is most useful for Aberystwyth - it's about 3 hours 30 mins away by direct train.

There is an international airport at Cardiff, but there is no direct rail link with Aberystwyth. Aberystwyth is a small town. A taxi ride from the railway station to most accommodation destinations in the town is usually no more than ten minutes. At the start of the academic year student representatives meet all trains and offer to take newly arrived students to their accommodation.

Your question asks about the nearest airport and that is Cardiff at 80 miles. Birmingham Airport is about 145 miles. There are of course other small airports that don't accept International traffic.

Just because Cardiff is the nearest, does not mean it is the most convenient. Public transport going north/south in Wales is appalling and therefore travelling east to Birmingham is the only viable route by public transport.

By car, the journey to Aberystwyth will take about 2 hours from Cardiff and approaching 3 hours from Birmingham

Birmingham is the most convenient major airport - by public transport you just take a short train ride to central Birmingham, then catch a direct train to Aberystwyth via Shrewsbury. Those people saying Cardiff clearly have no conception of how public transport works in Wales - from Cardiff airport you'd have to go east to central Cardiff, then take a train first northeast to Newport then north to Shrewsbury, then change to the westbound train to Aberystwyth which had started from Birmingham anyway!

Birmingham International is best as it serves a large variety of destinations and has a direct train link from Aberystwyth. www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk

If you are going to Aberystwyth from another part of England or Wales, your best way is to do the whole journey by train

Cardiff is close, you can get flights over the border in England, I think Birmingham, and then take a train to Aberystwyth...

I would imagine Cardiff is closest, however Birmingham isn't that far and you can get directly to Aberystwyth by train from there, whereas from Cardiff you would have to either get a bus or probably change trains in Birmingham anyway.

2 seconds in front of a MAP would have shown you that it is Cardiff. Have you heard of trains?
