Actually, of all the rodents, chinchillas have the least odor. I have 2 in my living room and I clean their cage out once a week, and you can't smell them at all. If you can get a female you'll have even less chance of odor. Just make sure you keep their cage clean and they will not smell. I like aspen bedding for their cage, personally. I find that carefresh gets smelly and dusty, and pine and cedar have oils that can be toxic to rodents.

chinchilla's don't stink! I use to look after 2 and they never smelt at all! The only way they would smell is if you didn't clean there cage out in like months, you should clean them out at least once a week!

First of all Chinchillas have no real odor. The only way they will smell is if you dont clean their cage, and its just cruel not to clean it. Research them and make a pros and cons sheet for your dad, do chores and things that will show that you will take care of it. Lastly, be nice and patient with your father.

If properly cared for-- there is little to no odor-- and if it is kept in your bedroom, with the door closed- there will be no odor in the rest of the place-- Gather allthe info you can on Chinchilla care, educate yourself, then educate your dad-- maybe he will see the seriousness of your desire...

I agree with Kea, they don't smell unless you don't clean them out for weeks on end. Good luck.

    What?

They don't stink, it was probably just your dad's excuse to not get one.

    Push harder!!
