can i drink the water that comes out of a condenser tumble dryer?

i have googled this and it seems the water is distilled, and i am concerned about the fluoride in tap water and thought that this might be a good idea to drink this water,

thank you for your help

I wouldn't recommend it. The water has been distilled, but it will have passed through a number of pieces of pipework which are not designed to carry drinking water, and which may not only give the water a strange taste, but might also remain damp after use, and breed bacteria (which would subsequently get washed into the water that you collect and drink - result equivalent to a really bad case of food poisoning).

My personal view on water filter jugs is that they are fairly useless (as proven by chemical analysis of water passed through them - the % amount of polar impurities removed is minimal).

Fluoride in water is also unlikely to be a real problem, as the other poster said. The amount present in toothpaste is massively greater than anything you will find in drinking water.

If your that worried you can make a home water distiller dead easy. All you need is a steam source a thermometer and a condenser. Making the glass coil tube for the condenser can be a bit tricky but they are not too difficult to make. You collect the steam when the water is at between 99.9 and 100.1C and pass it through the coil which should be cooled by flowing water on the outside. You should have very pure water coming out. However as the water has also had all the nitrogen and oxygen removed it will taste really flat. Basically it is not nice to drink even though it's so pure. Tap water is perfectly ok to take the steam from. This will not give you research chemistry grade distilled water but it would for example be good enough for topping up the old non-sealed type lead acid car batteries.

The water in the condenser of a tumble dryer has been distilled however it has also been exposed to contaminants way worse than in tap water after distillation.

The most practical solution is to get a water filter jug and regularly change the filters. Also if you're that worried about fluoride you should change to a fluoride free toothpaste as you will ingest about 10 times more fluoride from that than you ever will from tap water even if you are very careful not to swallow any.

  • what? i just wanna no what people answer cause ive never heard of such a thing.
