I am afraid to play Xbox because I think I'll get sick? (Please Help!)?
I have severe emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and I have been playing First Person Shooters for 3 years. I recently discovered that about 40% of the population get motion sick when playing video games. I have never had a problem playing games before, but now I'm afraid that if I play then I'll get sick. Is it possible to play games daily for years but all of a sudden they make you sick??

Well, now that you've heard this news, you may have what we call a "psychosomatic response". It's basically where we get the saying, "You'll think yourself sick." In simpler terms, it means that if you strongly believe you'll get sick, you WILL get sick. So, my advice is not to worry about it, and try not to think about it. Just enjoy yourself. You should be fine if you've been fine this long.

I have been playing all diffrent kids of games since I was like 6 and I got a PS2 for christmas. and I have never been sick from video games . I think that once you get used to playing video games, you dont get motion sickness or vomiting. Even if you might get sick from video games, you should not let that stop you from playing video games.

Motion sickness you would have noticed by now. It is when you get very dizzy from playing things where you control objects or characters. This especially occurs when one with motion sickness watches such a game. I am pretty sure that if you haven't gotten dizzy or had any nausea over those 3 years, you defiantly do not have motion sickness.

I'd be interested to see your source for that 40% figure! I think that's ridiculous.
It's possible yes... but probable? No.
Don't worry about it, and by motion sickness they mean a slight weariness, not vomiting.
I don't know of a single case of somebody vomiting due to a video game.

If its not happened once in the three years you've been playing, it most defiantly won't ever happen.
Stop being so paranoid about such a small issue. I understand its probably a big fear to you, but you could assume that after playing for so long you're body has been conditioned to the mindless virtual violence.

yeah. u probably took a break from playing or started a new game that has different quality graphics. u will probably be able to play for at least 1 hour b4 getting sick but thats enough for daily playdont u think?

as long as you take a 10-15 minute break for every hour you play you will be fine, it even says it before most games in the small print

I have no idea where you got that statistic, but it is highly unlikely that you will vomit.
Actually, you'd probably have a seizure sooner than vomiting, and that's not likely either.
