We actually spend 55 million on these 2 british players?
caroll and henderson.
i cant understand why british people are so overpriced? we got suarez who was such a talented striker for 24 million who is around Henderson's price.
caroll who is 35 + henderson who is 20 million? we could of bought aguero/pato or any other great signings.
we shouldn't go that deep in search for british players, because actually who is their?
rooney, gerrard, lampard, young and downing are great but we shouldn't go that deep and look for henderson and caroll.
and anyway i see more talent across south america and africa and we could of bought neymar for 35-40 million, and those kinda players we dont buy
I'm Happy with downing signing but

Supply and demand. Simple as that.
It's obvious that there are cheaper players who are as good if not better throughout Europe and South America. But the fact remains that for a club to succeed in the EPL they need a good crop of English players. They seem to bring a good mentality to a team along with a playing style which is something the player is born with. So there's the demand. But the supply is somewhat limited. Young English talents who have the potential to become great will always go at a high price tag because the club that developed them knows their worth in the long run and will not part ways with the player without a suitable fee. No club will let a talented young English player which they have developed themselves leave for a small fee. This is why United paid 16mil for Jones, Arsenal paid 12mil for Chamberlain and you guys paid 20mil Henderson. The whole Carroll deal was a bit of a mixure the way I see it. The fact that he was a promising young striker who was scoring some great goals for Newcastle meant that he would never go on the cheap. Then also the fact that Newcastle were unwilling to sell that late in the January transfer market is the real reason they overpaid so much for him. The player himself was a good buy for the club, but the conditions under what Liverpool signed him wasn't the smartest. Kenny could've waited and got him for somewhere around the 20-25mil mark in the summer.

Because there is such thing as squad registration. Squad registration means you can only designate 25 people to play in Premier League games and 8 (10 for Championship and League 1 and 2 sides) of these I think it is has to be homegrown. Otherwise English. Now, there are a lot of good English players but very few great ones. You usually have to pay inordinate amounts to get anyone from their international u21 or young players from their senior squad. It makes sense to me. Not from watching a lot of football really (that's all I do but I wouldn't know from just tv), but because I play Footy Manager a lot and know a few of the tedious parts of being a manager.
Liverpool did spend too much though I agree, but sometimes you have to especially a club trying to get back into top 4. I am pleased.

I get your very valid point but you do need some English players in your team/squad I think if Arsenal had some especially in defence they wouldn't be letting so many soft goals in & it isn't just in England whenever there is a deal going on between clubs from the same country then the price goes up.

They are young and usually English are overrated and overpriced. Though I have my trust in the king. You can never know, in two years and we might have an Alan Shearer in our hands.
Henderson is a good player played out of position. And there is also the rule of homegrown players coming up so buying players right now is a good thing. Will help us in the future.

Because the Premier League rules states that you have to have a certain amount of British players, so therefore it creates higher values as they are more in demand.

Newcastle over priced Carroll because they knew that dump old Liverpool would buy him of them, he may of been one of their best player but they now have a decent amount of money for him, which can get new, better players, and then Sunderland followed in their footsteps.
But you did do the same with Chelsea, selling Torres for 50 million.. Good deal for Liverpool their.

They are fine signings, and will prove to be valuable for both Liverpool and England. I applaud Liverpool for hiring locals and honestly don't care what they cost. The club has very bright people to worry about that stuff all day long for me.
Looking foreward to a weekend of good matches. Go Liverpool!!
