Why can't we keep religion out of our poltics?

The further down the road we go the more the right wants politics and religion to be the same they are not, what are your thoughts

Update:

The 1st Amendment is all the brainwashing I need

That's the way the Founders intended it, but the country was taken over by pious idiots who can't see any distinction between politics and religion.

There is so much at "stake" between both that it is on all U S money... How can you back up a wanna-be when they do not agree with yoy or the other way around... It seems the idea of any move to make a stand in the "arena" goes with praise to GOD and then the very ,very very, lower class... The ones who believe we will get our due if we work hard keep our nose clean and not rock the boat we will inherit.. it must be the next lifr time cause all our hopes if not Help Your Self Then You Will Be Understood ... does not mean steal from medicade/medicare..ss..ssi..welfare..fema...all and any insurance cause those of us who need it are SOL... Hope your religion can smite the wicked without the hand of human touch .. that means no bombs ..chem warfare.. backstab your co-worker etc.. And for MY record no one people has a right to keep any people under death control .. If you cannot get along go find your own uninhabit land you want to rule leave dem/ rep/lib alone

Have you ever read the back of a One Dollar bill, in fact on the back of every denomination of US Currency. It says "In God We Trust" right in the middle of it. There are still a lot of people in this country who believe in that.

My thought is that Martin Luther King used religion in his politics. I don't have a problem with it.

We are supposed to separate church and state, but the line is very, very blurred.
