Do I need antivirus or a firewall for Windows 8?
I got the Windows 8 Preview on my laptop, and it's pretty cool. All my Windows 7 programs work the same, which makes me wonder...
Is Windows 8 just as susceptible to viruses as windows 7? I dual boot 7 and 8, and use Comodo firewall and Avast! antivirus with windows 7. Alternative, less popular operating systems like OSX and Linux are at a lower risk because the vast majority of viruses are designed to infect Windows XP/Vista/7 systems. I guess I'm really asking if Windows 8 is susceptible to the same viruses as windows 7, and if MS put in any extra security measures in Windows 8.
And if it matters, security isn't my number one concern on this laptop. I keep all important files backed up on my desktop, and since I have an SSD in my laptop, I don't have too much extra space for programs. But it's also hard to bog down with programs, and I have my old laptop HDD with a clean Windows 7 install if anything bad does happen.

After windows 8 gets done being created and completed I will probably get windows 8. I will use the same Anti-virus and Anti-spyware on windows 8 that I am
using now on my windows 7. That is AVG, malwarebytes, and SuperAntiSpyware.
and Ccleaner.

Listen, all operating systems are susceptible to similar viruses. Think of it this way. A virus made to break Windows 7 will not work on Windows 8 unless it gets upgraded or it evolves. So no matter how well you are protected a new better version of a virus is still going to be a problem.

Windows 8 has a somewhat decent antivirus built in to it (Windows Defender). if you want it to be a functional OS for use as a priamry OS, you should probally get an antivirus.
We have an Win8 computer at school and it is only connected to the internet for 45 seconds at a time and it has been great.
PS some of these answers are wrong, NOT everything is built in, and windows viruses WILL ALWAYS work no matter what version it is as long is is NT or newer)

do no longer hear to those "Avast" innovations, Avast has some fake positives, besides the shown fact that that is nevertheless exceedingly solid thinking the reality that that is gentle on your gadget. For larger protection, i could advise Avira Antivir. BitDefender Firewall is a solid one for abode windows 8, it additionally comes bundled with with regard to the superb Antivirus interior the international. It has some bugs besides the shown fact that it will do the trick. BullGuard is a antivirus with the BitDefender engine that is way less buggy. BitDefender has a AV optimized for Window 8, you're able to try it (:
