Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and smelled very strong scents?
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night to the scent of VERY STRONG cologne. My husband wasn't in the room and even if he was he doesn't wear cologne. I laid there for a while trying to figure out where it was coming from but gave up. I then got up to use the restroom and didn't smell it in that room and when I went back to the bedroom the smell was gone. Could this have been sort of subconscious thing? Can you brain make you think you are smelling things that aren't really there?
Hannah, you didn't upset me. That thought certainly crossed my mind as well. Although I can't recall anyone I know wearing that particular scent. But I guess I'll never know. :) And if we're really going down that track I suppose it could have been a man that I never knew (such as my grandfather who passed away before I was born and therefore I wouldn't know what he smelled like). If it were perfume I might could actually use this argument because an elderly woman did die in our house before we bought it.
Hummingbird, that's an interesting thought but we don't ever sleep with windows open... we live in a wooded area and I have a fear of animals/bugs coming inside. I'd never be able to get any sleep. :) But it is certainly possible that I was dreaming about it and was still in that half asleep state when I remember smelling it, then going to the restroom pulled me out of my sleep. Like I said before I'll probably never know what the real cause was.

Absolutely! My missus reckons she can smell things most nights when she's asleep. I seem to get the blame way too much.

I woke up last night at 4:35 am to the strong scent of what smelled like baby powder. It was so strong in my nostrils! Only lasted about 5-10 seconds. I don t use it nor does my husband. As I was getting up this morning around 9 am, I remembered it was the day my mom passed away, 6 years ago, at 4:31 am! Not sure but I think she used powder like that. Has anyone else experienced this??

some of us have a heightened sense of smell. there could have been a window cracked open slightly and some one nearby out side with that Cologne on. that has happens to me before. i caught a peep ping tom like that. hope that isn.t your case.
i have woken up dreaming about the man who raised me and even had the lingering scent of him in my dreams. it was not Colologne though. it was burning sage and juniper, and the scent of horses and sweat. it made me cry for days because i missed him so.
when things like this happen when they wake you and being half asleep and vunerable it can be very disturbing and even keep you up at night . i have no answers for the whys, i only know that your eyes and ears can play tricks on you . but not your nose. if the scent was still there once you woke and you smelled Cologne there was Cologne on the wind some place near, and it was real.

i dont know how spiritual you are but if you remember any male person it does not have to be a relative who you remember wearing cologne then you never know you may have had a visitor or you may have been dreaming of that smell because that can happen to. i hope i have not upset you but its just an option XxX

Ech, yes! My next door neighbors like to smoke all through out the night. And I can't sleep while inhaling cigarette smoke because it wakes me up. And I'm a smoker.
But yes, it's very annoying.

Sometimes I wake up smelling the litter box. :) No, I've never experienced what you describe.
