My son only had about 5 words or so before 2. After 2 he had a vocabulary explosion! Now he's 3 and can talk like a pro. Don't stress. If at 2 1/2 he still isn't talking, then worry. But I'm sure he's fine.

i don't think there is anything wrong with your son. he is only 19 months old. my sister son only had 5 words at that age. all kids are different and he will talk when he is ready. i would ask the dr why he screams so much and if you should do something. maybe he wants to talk and just don't know how and it makes him mad. my son did that. he is 7 now and just fine. he dose great in school and there is nothing wrong with him. read to him and talk to him as much as you can that might help. and sing to him. good luck. i hope he talks soon.

In my opinion, I wouldn't worry about your child's "progress". We all progress at different rates. I've seen this so many times, and parents of widely varied aged kids don't realize that what they are indirectly saying is "You are required to do something that pleases us only if done spontaneously", which is such a mind-boggling double standard!!!! Just relax and wait until he gets older, he might have brain damage of some kind, but don't check for it now, he's still growing, and throwing MRIs at him is not a good idea in my opinion.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your son, if you are afraid of him not keeping up with other kids, I wouldn't give a ****! I've experienced the same as you and my kid turned out to be rather brilliant, in my humble opinion, I don't gloat about it. I wish you the best of luck :-)
