What's a good attention grabber to get a dog?

This ISN'T for school. I need a good attention grabber to convince my father into getting me a dog. I had a hamster, but my hamster died a week later. My father says I can get another hamster, but want a Yorkshire Terrier. Any ideas for a good attention grabber?

Update:

Also, I forgot to mention my parents love dogs! But they don't know if a dog will be good or bad. So they're just confused right now.

Update 2:

More details about my hamster. My hamster died in a week because of the high temperature. It was blazing hot at my house, we had the air condition on to what my hamster needed, 65-77. But I guess my hamster still couldn't take the heat. Therefore I think a dog could withstand the heat better than a hamster. I don't want to risk another heat accident with another hamster, that's why I say a dog would be better than a hamster.

    you talk to dad

you agree to what he says

    small dog costs

$2500 emergency vet fund, replace and add to if any used

    $1000 first year vet

    $50 flea/heartworm month

    $50 grooming 6-8 weeks

    $110 training 6 weeks

    $25 food month

    $200 supplies

    to get you started

then you need to only buy from a breeder that health test parents

read up on breed and learn defects from byb

talk to vet about cost and care of breed defects

yorkies are fragile and need to supervise closely

all dogs need training, exercise, socialization, grooming and vet care

need to be treated like a dog not a toy

I dont really want you to have a dog. If your hamster died a week after? That doesnt sound like your responsible enough for a dog. They are ALOT of work, much more than a hamster, and if you cant even handle that, then dont get a dog. Especially a yorkshire terrier! They are so difficult to train!

You shouldn't have to "convince" them. What you should do is sit down like an adult and hear ALL sides of the argument and think about it all logically. Don't think that only your views count, because you're not the only person who is going to be living with this dog; your parents have to put up with it too.

Convince dog and parents should not be in the same sentence if you have to convince your parents they don't want a dog .

Your gonna have to show them you can be responsible( cleaning your room washing dishes etc.) and also be good and dont get into trouble.

I guess he figures that if you couldn't keep a hamster alive, you couldn't take proper care of a dog either.
