What is this clear gel type goo oozing through my GE window A/C?

The a/c was unable to read the room temp correctly so removed the filter and found that there was this goo oozing out of the front fins. Took it all apart to clean and there was a blob of this goo about 2" thick and at least 6" around on the base in the back. There was a bit of dirt on it but what was it? None of us could come up with a reasonable explanation unless it oozed out of one of the a/c componets or it was left there at the factory. Sprayed it down until it was gone everywhere and it's working fine but what was it? Will there be more? Is this the beginning of the end for the A/C? It was a GE energy star 8000 btu I bought in June last year.

It's nothing that was originally in the unit, they only contain oil and refrigerant(gas). I've seen some weird molds grow out of coils, even some that was clear, but never that large. Not sure what it was, but you shouldn't have any problem with the system because of it.

After thought.... could it be a pack of desiccant that has absorbed a bunch of water, there would have been several in the original package

Just saw this and I had the same problem. The GE a/c wouldn't read the room temperature correctly. This was about a year ago and this is june 2014. My neighbor came over and we took off the front and there was a pile of goo about 6 to 8 inches high. It hadn't oozed any where. We laughed about why it was there and our best answer was that this was going to be a remake of the movie The Blob. We cleaned it all out and the a/c seemed to work ok. This year it doesn't seem like the compressor is comng on like it should so I am disappointed with it yet again. If it doesn't cool this room better it will end up like the HaEIR A/Ci UNFORTUNATELY BOUGHT BEFORE THIS ONE...JUNK. It never worked right and couldn't get it to work right. I also have a GE stove and the first thing that happened was the finish on the hinge underneath the oven door cracked off so I have a line of rust. The oven stopped working last winter and now I have to hand light the burners. I have put GE on the top of my do not buy list and it will stay there. I understand they are moving their company to China and that gives me one more reason not to buy GE.

Just recently I was asked by my bank if I wanted to put one of my larger IRA's into a stock account. There were three stocks...GE, McDonalds and something I'd never heard of. While many like McD's, I find that one day someone will be able to figure out why their meat doesn't taste like meat and I don't want my poor little money invested in them and certainly not junkly GE.

If your A/C was like mine, it wasn't a little bit of goo but a huge amount with no reason for it to be there...that I could figure out. I should aadd that I bought a GE washer that didn't clean at all and was so bad that GE replaced it with a better machine. It is running right now for the second time on my load of whites so they look clean.

    Never buy GE.

I would guess it was silicon caulk pumped in there by a clumsy installation worker. Silicon caulk would be like rubber but sort of translucent. If that's it, you can just cut it loose and throw it out.
