Would you say congratulations to the guy if his wife has a baby?

My teacher has been out for about a week because his wife just had a baby. When he comes back, should I say congratulations, or is that something you only say to the woman?

    I would, of course.

It's as much his as his wife, new addition to the family. that's always exciting.

I'm sure he's super excited to be a dad. Wonder if it's a boy or a girl..

    Congrats to them both !

It is perfectly acceptable to congratulate the father, and offer your best wishes They are a family and the birth of a baby is an equally exciting event for both parents.

The child is as much his as his wife's so I see no reason to ignore the fact. I'd congratulate him.

No. you can say congrats to him too. Its very common to do so, as it is his child too. So go ahead and congratulate him, he will really appreciate it.
