Can you root an android phone without installing a new ROM?
I have the Motorola Cliq with Android 2.1.5, which I'm happy with, but I CANT STAND TeleNav and other pre-installed programs that load themselves without provocation. SO, I know I can get rid of TeleNav if my phone is rooted (which I have everything I need to do) but all the ROMs I'm finding have issues that I wouldn't be able to deal with. So, can I root my phone to get rid of TeleNav while still keeping the same OS ROM that I have now (no ROM flash)?

Yes you can. Root just means you have root access to the device. It has nothing to do with the roms. I have cm7 android 2.3.5 on my cliq and its just fine. Everything works. Hope this helps...
