    Quote:

"Of the 18 teams that have had two players win the MVP and Cy Young Award in the same season, 17 have finished first in the league or division. And the 18th, the 1962 Dodgers, finished the 162-game season tied with San Francisco before losing to the Giants in a three-game playoff. If Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw were to win this season, it would be the first time players from a team out of contention were so honored."

    Edit:

I don't think the article counts the times that a player won both the MVP and the Cy Young award in the same season.

The Dodgers are already the only team in MLB history to have the MVP and Cy Young without making the playoffs.

In 1962 Don Drysdale won the Cy Young and Maury Wills won the MVP but the Giants represented the NL in the post season that year.

The other 24 times a team has won both awards they made the post season.
