Bristol qualifing question.?
Back at Bristol, Tony Stewart had the worst qualifing lap of his career, but was still put ahead of Mike Skinner, who out qualified him. Anybody know why the official qualifying order went the way it did?

Top-35 owner points. Tony Stewart's #14 was in the top 35 in points. Those drivers are guaranteed a starting spot as long as they enter the race. Then you have go-or-go home drivers; those not in the top 35. Mike Skinner's #60 was outside the top-35, so even though he ran a better lap, he didn't beat enough of the other go-or-go home drivers to make the race, if that's what you're asking. Another note: once per qualifying session, a past champion can use a past champion's provisional to make the race if they're outside the top 35. I won't go into detail on that rule since it didn't apply, but the last driver to use this provisional was Bobby Labonte last season

The top 35 rule. In the NSCS the top 35 in OWNER's points are locked in & will race on a given weekend. Mike Skinner's car was not in that category so though he out paced Tony, he was given a lower starting spot. Those drivers are ranked 36th to 42nd with 43rd being left for a Champion's provisional if needed (if not then 1 other driver gets in)

Special NASCAR Rule Number 6748932. Otherwise known as the "Everybody Goes Ahead Of Skinner" Rule. Here's how the Rule reads:
"Since we all KNOW Skinner is a weenie (and had SOMETHING to do with Dale Sr's death) anybody with a pulse qualifies ahead of him. The only reason we even let Skinner race is so we can look at his wife all day long. Is she a babe or what? Anyway,he was a dork when he was with RCR and he hasn't changed. Hell will freeze over before we let him break into the Top 35 in owner points."
Don't tell NASCAR I showed y'all the Rule Book,okay?
