That depends on what kind of anesthesia you're having during the surgery and what kind of pain meds you're taking after it. If you are getting knocked out for the surgery (like with twilight sedation), you won't feel a thing. And your dentist will likely give you some good stuff like vicodin so you won't hurt too much at home.

Just a heads up you may not want to let them give you a drug like Versed

In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort. However, that does not mean that those sensations will not be experienced.

My wife had her broken bone(Femur)set in the emergency room just before surgery to repair it. They gave her versed and I waited outside of the room and could hear her screaming in pain, they did not appear to be concerned as they told me she would not remember anything and she did not. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN AND THAT SHE DID NOT SUFFER. An hour or 2 later they brought her to surgery.I can't help thinking how cruel that was

No it wont hurt that much. You will just feel some pressure during tooth extraction but no pain. Tooth extraction procedure is done under local anesthesia so that there is no pain to the patient. So that there is no pain after tooth extraction, patient has to follow the instructions of his dentist and take the meds as prescribed. For more info on pain during and after tooth extraction, you can refer to following article.. http://www.identalhub.com/dental-pain-during-and-a...
