Well instead of telling him outright, you could talk to him about things that you know he likes.
Find out if he likes computer games or what music he likes, if he likes sports or anything else.
Then you could start a conversation saying, hey did you see that football match/ have you got the latest????cd/ have you got a....Wii/xbox/ps3.
Once you talk to him about ordinary things then you can put a few hints in that you like him and if he feels the same then perhaps he'll take the hint.
