Why have managers continued to waste money on Peter Crouch?
So many managers have spent so many millions on Crouch over the years.
But what do people see in him?
He's 6 foot 8, so you'd expect him to be strong in the air. But he can't jump, and can't head the ball! Against Swansea on the week-end, Garry Monk, a centre back 8 inches shorter than Crouch, won pretty much every single header.
"His feet are good for a big man" is what everybody says. But just because his feet are good for a big man doesn't mean they're good by Premier League standards!
He's one of the slowest players in the Premier League, and he isn't very strong.
Plus, whenever things don't go his way he lashes out at people with dangerous tackles.
And over the years his scoring record is distinctly average.
I understand that he's a nice guy off the pitch. But I think his personality means he evades a lot of deserved criticism.
Swagga: But he doesn't win the headers. He's useless in the air.
You say he has a good over-head kick. He's scored two or three in his career, but how many times has he tried it, and it's gone flying high and wide? loads.

I understand your question .. From your question it's obvious you are not too fond of Peter Crouch .. Brace yourself for another tedious answer mate ..
One of your first statements is: " He's 6 foot 8, so you'd expect him to be strong in the air. But he can't jump, and can't head the ball! " ..
Well, first of all, he is strong in the air .. and with that height, he doesn't have to jump, really .. Lol ! .. He uses his height as an asset in the same way Rory Delap has used his long throw-ins .. May be he is not among the best headers of the ball in the EPL, definitely not of the same level as say, Didier Drogba or Nemanja Vidic .. But he is still pretty good, not one to be trifled with when it comes to aerial battles ..
What you say about Garry Monk is may be because Monk took the threat posed by Crouch seriously and therefore played well against Crouch ..
Peter Crouch is not your standard striker; he is a support striker .. He is not the guy from whom one can expect 20-goals a season; he is in no way prolific ..
But as a supporting striker, Peter Crouch is pretty good .. Sure, he misses many chances .. But he has this knack of scoring crucial goals .. Best example in recent years would be the winning goal against Man City in the 2009-2010 season which took Spurs to 4th place in the EPL thereby securing a UEFA CL spot .. Pity, the next season, Crouch scored an own goal against the same opponents; this time Spurs lost out on a UEFA CL spot ..
He is a Center Forward aka a target-man .. When he plays, the team's strategy is pretty obvious; get the ball to him .. He will knock it down or hold it up for a team-mate .. His short passing is OK in my opinion; his ability to hold the ball is good too .. and as I said before, he can knock the ball down very well ..
Also, his scoring record for the England national team is pretty good .. Again, people might say Crouch has scored quite a few goals against 'less-fancied' opponents .. But then, I argue, even more 'established' names have failed to score against the same opponents ..
England has only three target-men who can play for them at the moment: Andy Caroll, Kevin Davies and Peter Crouch ..
Peter Crouch has played for many clubs; a lot of money was spent by the clubs in acquiring his services every time .. I agree .. This I blame on the huge amounts of transfer fees being spent on even mediocre players these days ..

Stoke Bought him because he has an excellent Proven track record in europe...
His England Goals to games Ratio is basically 1 in 2
And to call him average is not right...
I think, since his days at southampton, where he played with James Beattie, he has been a consistent premier league performer with every club he has played for, He was good for Portsmouth, excellent for Tottenham and he was not to bad for Liverpool, he was a lot better than Robbie Keane or David N Gog...
And he has already started scoring at Stoke, both in Europe and in the prem.

I completely agree! He scores goals cause he lurks in the box, and even then he tends to make them look scrappy - on that bases I guess you could say he's a lucky forward, but that's not good enough for top flight football.
Plus the amount of fouls he gives away in the air is something else!
