Would a 64-bit Windows 7 system run all the software I now have on my 32-bit Windows XP?

I ask because I'm thinking about buying a new computer with Windows 7 on it, and all the computers at my local WalMart have a Windows 7 system with 64 bits. But the computer I have at home has a 32-bit Windows XP. So if I get the 64-bit system, will all my 32-bit software work OK on it or will I run into problems and have to do some special things? I don't know a lot about computers, so would I maybe be better off getting a tech guy to transfer my 32-bit software to the 64-bit system, or should everything work OK with no problems?

32 bit programs run fine on 64 bit, but some programs don't like higher versions of windows. So it REALLY depends mostly on which individual programs you have. Most of it should work okay. When I upgraded to win 7 64bit from xp, pretty much all my programs were fine. Only like 1 or 2 didn't work. But I got over it and use different programs now for the same purpose. Overall win 7 is definitely better!

Also when you install it I think it tells you which programs installed may not run correctly on win 7. So that's a good thing to look at before you actually do it.

Yup, you should be fine. Windows 7 64-bit can run 32-bit programs.
