Can anyone recommend a nose cone ignition for an aftermarket Evo motor?

I currently have a fried Crane HI-4. I have recently been hearing they aren't what they used to be. I am now looking at the Dyna 2ki and the Daytona Twin Tec. I'm a running a dual spark coil. Any opinions?

Also, I'm not going to relocate the ignition module or switch to single fire. I don't want to make this an exercise in rerouting wires and I already have a dual fire coil. Plus there is no evidence that single fire is any better.

Check to see how many ohms your coils are. The crane HI-4 is not reccomended for use with high ohm dual coils. The ignition module will fry exactly as it did in your case. Depending on your budget, you can do a number of things. Get a stock ignition module, kill all that VOES garbage and run that advance all the way up. On my old bike, I kept the dual coils, and switched from my fried crane hi-4 (they have a high return rate on their single fire stuff anyway), and went to a rotary electronic ignition by twin power instead. That thing can take as much juice as you can throw at, and they perform very well. 3 years of very hard riding on it and no problems. I reccomend whenever you purchase this, go to a harley dealer or bike shop so they can help you pick out the exact right one for you. Lastly, you can always get some of that daytona twintech crap, but it will fry just like the crane.

    The Crane HI4 .

I had to run a Dyna for awhile after an ignition failure on a road trip and the Crane is vastly superior.

As soon as I got home I ordered another Crane H!4 and am just saving the Dyna as a backup.

** EDIT , Hey , I thought I'd mention that Crane replaced my 5 year old ignition at a deep discount as part of some customer loyalty program .

You might want to talk to them directly before buying retail.

Source(s): BTW , there is nothing difficult or excessive about switching to single fire. Just bypass the module.

first of all i would call crane if i had a fried ignition of theirs..In the last ten years i have killed one out of three i have on bikes but i do run the crane coil with the crane ignition and i run them single fire .. Don't make any noticeable power difference but the idle quality is better . I like the crane hi4 because one i have had good service out of them and two i like the adjustable ranges on them ..curve and kick or electric and rev limits .. Last one i bought went on a S&S 96 that ran like crap with the stock igniton and screaming eagle box and dual fire .. I had a compufire that came with the engine and put it on and it lasted one week so i said screw it and went with a crane high 4 and the bike has ran great for the last ten thousand miles

Source(s): Mechanic that has been riding for around fifty years ..

I've ran one of these on an S&S evo engine for the last 6 years:

If running a carb, you should run a VOES.
