I've spent high school preparing for an art school but may want to become a therapist?

I have a 3.2 GPA and a 1650 score in the SAT's (I know thats low. I'm retaking them.) I have a bit of a problem. My four years i've been preparing for the arts, possibly a career in graphic design or movie producing. But recently i've been rethinking this. I feel that while artistic revenues are important to society, it wouldn't satisfy me.

I've decided that i may prefer devoting my life to helping people with their emotional well being, maybe counseling families, helping people repair marriages, or even pursue the path of a clinical psychologist. I feel like that's a career path that i could easily become passionate about.

Now, the issue is that i've always been abysmally horrible at math, even though i've done reasonably well in science. For my last year in high school i've been taking film class, computer design, and ap art studio. This change of interest hasn't been recent, but rather has been influenced by my desire to have a job that actually helps people instead of focusing on decoration and marketing.

Is it possible for me to switch majors if the university accepts me for my artistic abilities? Is it possible that they would boot me out for opting out of an art program and going into medicine? would it affect my credit transfer and make it difficult to graduate from undergrad in four years? Would i have to go to a community college? Would this reflect badly on me to the universities? could i mesh the two studies, art and medicine, together? How early on can i change my major?

Actually allot of people believe in art as a therapy. For some nonverbal people this is a way in. What I would do if I were you is find a small school for Libreal arts courses like math english ....... Make sure the one you choose has credits that will be excepted at the university you want to Attend. You may change your mind at the smaller school, but that is ok. Liberal arts classes are needed for most majors. Also while at the smaller school you will grow up. You will understand school is FOR you. Not just so your parents have another thing to yell at you about. You will start to pull that average up. Soon you can be accepted at a University. Don't let go of the ART you may still use it.

get good grades and be good at what you do (or have a ton of money to spend) and it doesn't really matter.

many people who enter college or universities switch their majors as they go along, they pick what they ideally want then they see the behind the scenes of it and don't really like it so they switch. some people just graduate with what they started and never really get into that field, wishing the would have changed when they had the chance. i know someone with a PHD in medicine and is working as an investment banker.

you can always double major if that's the case, or have a major and a minor. try talking to the counselor at your current school and see what might be the best route for you, as they may have access to the most current up to date information for the schools you are trying to get into.
