Is there such thing as a Protective Topcoat for a bike, after it has been painted?

the other day i painted my fixed gear bike (with steel track frame) with paint that i was using to paint my walls. i was bored and i liked the color so i just went for it. it turned out great, but I'm a little worried that it will scratch off, peel get ruined in the rain or something. does anyone have any suggestions on what to do!?!?! is there such thing as a protective topcoat to help keep it safe?

Somebody said that "boredom is the mother of all ruination". Well, you ruined that bike for good. That paint will peel soon and no amount of Topcoat is going to change that. In the mean time, that paint will go from the bike into your pants like wall paint do if you rub it with a cloth. Next time you paint your wall do it in a well ventilated area. Those fumes can make you see things the way they are not.

Well first off, you shouldn't have used that paint, its not meant to stick on metal. And the topcoat is what is used to give that shinny glossy feeling. Look for clear coat, that's what it is called. But buy a can of spray paint as well, because the paint that you used will not last at all

Not sure if using house paint was the best idea. Heres what i would do. Strip off all the paint, and spray paint it.

As for the "protective topcoat" you can have it "powder-coated" or clear coated.
