Why do tennis players apologise when...?

they get a lucky point via a net cord or mishit return. Its sporting behaviour but I dont see it done in say soccer when the team scores an own goal or when a shot is deflected by a defender and goes in.

The benefitting player or team will just celebrate wildly.

they apologise because tennis players like to get the point by hitting a winner

    or forcing an error..

getting a netcord is a cheap lucky point.. they are not happy to get usually...

Tennis players have more class than soccer players, but I don't always apologiZe for a shot like that especially if I don't like the other player. It isn't required, but it's nice to do because it wasn't your skill that got the point, it was most likely luck.

Because for the most part, tennis is still a civilised sport where people do observe basic manners. Have to admit it is a touch two-faced though, when this happens. You can just see them saying 'sorry' and turning away saying Yessssssssssss. LOL.

Tennis players are so consistent and proficient. When they get a point like that especially in a match, they apologize because it was almost not meant to be. You dont see many but when you do, there deff apologetic.

Well, they were lucky to get the point and it feels kind of cheap making a point that should've been an error. So they apologize for their poor shotmaking in that particular moment. However, they are probably happy on the inside that they won the point. It's a matter of being classy.

Some sports have more class than others. Tennis has roots in royalty. Soccer in hulligantry.

An own goal would be the other teams fault not yours in tennis you opponent couldn't influence it. Your example is more like a double fault.

    Tradition!

After a match has just finished, I feel that it's a bit cold to celebrate in front of a player you just beat, but the pro's do it all the time nowadays.

I like Santeros answer... The player admits it was a luck shot more than they apologize for it... I lift my hand too when the ball just clips the net, but I don't think "WOO HOO!" I just think: "Damn I have to start hitting the ball higher over the net else I won't be this lucky all the time."
