Can you set it so that when you open word it automatically sets a header?
I have a mac if that helps.
What do I do once I have saved as a template file, I opened word but it did not automatically open that file.
Ignore that, I figured it out.

Yes. You can set the template to look however you want, and then when you open word, it will load your template, or the document you saved as a template. (After you make it look the way you want, use "Save As ... " and select "Template file".
