Alright I read it, and it makes sense. It's not unlike our debate all the time here in the US. Do we buy American made, or buy things made in another country for cheap? I don't think there are too many people who wouldn't at least understand the argument that's being made.

No it won't stop me from helping. Anybody that truly wants to help shouldn't judge what type of help is needed. This is not a matter of "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." This is about doing what's most beneficial. The hand-me-downs are actually making them more dependent because it's hurting their economy.

Maybe people can't donate much cash, so the cash donations probably won't increase much. But hopefully the SWEDOW will decrease, and therefore increase the goods sold in their country.

it's the same everywhere, even in america.

every time i get food from a food pantry or food bank, about HALF is expired ... by YEARS.

and i've had to shop at salvation army & good will. CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP. it's NOT a materialistic thing (pun not intended). it's the fact that QUALITY really makes THE difference.

it's insulting to pass off "unwanted" or really OLD things to those less fortunate. they're less fortunate, not less DESERVING.

we live in a world of immense luxury, but the majority of people (worldwide) can NEVER put their hands on it. it's not greed, it's just that we are very well aware of the DIFFERENCES of good and not-so-great.

pet peeve: shopping for clothes at walmart or family dollar and they fall apart after the second washing, sometimes even the FIRST wash wrecks and ruins an article of clothing.

if people were donating VALUABLE second hand items (items that they could possibly sell on ebay and make that profit!) then it probably wouldn't be an issue. it's all about Balance. include *some* valuable items, both new AND second hand, and the good difference will be appreciated. everybody wins.
