Classical music aficionados - what are your most guilty musical pleasures?

I last asked this question nearly four years ago (how time flies!), but we now have a (largely) new set of interesting contributors (and many we miss from their absence here!) and so I thought I would ask this question again. It will be interesting to see if some contributors who answered last time give the same answer as before.

My most guilty musical pleasure remains the same as it was all that time ago - the silly song (yes it IS a song!) 'Dragostea din tei' (better known as the 'Numa Numa Dance') by Moldovan pop band O-Zone. No matter how many times I hear this ridiculous trifle, I still love it! Here it is:

Come on - what YOURS?

Update:

Apologies if this question appears twice, only I posted it about an hour ago, it didn't show, so then I posted it again. It still doesn't show on my list of questions in 'classical'; I can only see it when clicking "you have a new answer to your question". Someone can obviously see it (thank you, tucomena), but please ignore the repetition if there is one (I can't see it to delete it!). Good ol' Y!A!

    MOZART L'OPERA ROCK!

What's not to love about it? It's a musical, a French musical, and there's something so incredibly sexy about the French R's, especially when they are pronounced by Mikelangelo Loconte (*swoons*), an Italian singer with the world's cutest smile and sexiest hair. What'd I give for one night with... oh, ahem. Pardon-moi!

And the lyrics? Deliciously, tantalizingly, scandalous. The chorus of the hit-single "Tatoue-moi" is the best example of it all.

    "Tatoue-moi sur tes seins

Fais-le du bout de mes lèvres

    Je baiserai tes mains

Je ferai que ça te plaise

    Tatoue-moi sur tes murs

    Un futur à composer

Je veux graver toutes mes luxures

    Sur tes dorures"

Oh yes, I'm assuming you'd all like a translation.

    "Tattoo me on your breasts

Do it with the tip of my lips

    I will kiss your hands

I'll do whatever to please you

    Tattoo me on your wall

    A future to compose

I want to engrave all my lust

    On your gildings"

Oh it reeks of this Bohemian, free-spirited, artsy air, tinged with the elegance of the 18th century, that is oh-so-appealing.

And if you think it can't get any better than that? It's about MOZART! Instantly appealing to my Mozart addiction which I have developed over the years.

Trust me, it's a guilty pleasure to the extreme. Critics have called it a "mediocrity" with "insipid melodies", describing it as "glittering, sugared like a meringue".

Yup, I'm addicted to Mozart L'Opera Rock. I'll listen to it when I'm supposed to be studying with the justification that it's a cultural experience, something my French prof would surely approve of.

Well, maybe the Red Hot Chili Peppers although their older stuff is great funk and isn't really a guilty pleasure as I think it is good stuff.

But I think everyone can unanimously agree here that mine is Rakhmaninov. Not that it is bad but I have been obsessed lately. Enough said. I don't apologize lol.

Edit: Hey just so you know I don't think this question appears on the main classical section page. This is a weird occurrence and I think this happened to me a few weeks ago as I had asked a question in the English Football section and nobody answered it (which never ever happens) so I don't think it was visible. You might want to re-ask later with a slightly different title or something since this is a good question. If I am on then I will repost my reply.

Guilty Pleasures: ... you're making me think here.

    So many to choose from

Eduard Khil - Я очень рад, ведь я, наконец, возвращаюсь домой

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsveiPJcxlE

    Kraftwerk - Autobahn

    Focus - Hocus Pocus

    Focus - Sylvia

The New Seekers - When I was Small

    Supertramp - The Logical Song

Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian

    Blondie - Sunday Girl

Was (Not Was) - Walk the Dinosaur

... and since Mandy pointed out Rolf Harris, I'll add Tie Me Kangaroo Down

(There's a lot more esoteric stuff out there and my post would go on for pages.)

EDIT: Big thumbs up for Alberich and noting Tennessee Ernie Ford!.

Oh man, oh man... Have to say like i. jones here, way too many to choose from. I gotta bit of time on my hands and this is a really fun question, so here we go.

Well, er, well... I do like to indulge once in a while listening to metal songs like Rammstein's Feuer frei! And I must admit being a hardcore fan of Jethro Tull and Neil Young (which makes me feel a lot less guilty). Some of my fetish *songs* are (blush) Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and The Capitols's Cool Jerk, probably (hopefully) due to the fact that they kind of bring me fond memories of my younger years... Oh well.

    Very Best,

    Raymond

    Good question, Del!

I can't remember what did I answer years ago, but - of course apart from JS Bach, who is my favorite-favorite - for a couple years, also a silly song (like you) has been my favorite. I find this is really unbelievable, yet....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I Don't Want to Live on the Moon"

Well, I'd like to visit the moon

On a rocket ship high in the air

Yes, I'd like to visit the moon

But I don't think I'd like to live there

Though I'd like to look down at the earth from above

I would miss all the places and people I love

So although I might like it for one afternoon

I don't want to live on the moon

I'd like to travel under the sea

I could meet all the fish everywhere

Yes, I'd travel under the sea

But I don't think I'd like to live there

I might stay for a day there if I had my wish

But there's not much to do when your friends are all fish

And an oyster and clam aren't real family

So I don't want to live in the sea

I'd like to visit the jungle, hear the lions roar

Go back in time and meet a dinosaur

There's so many strange places I'd like to be

    But none of them permanently

So if I should visit the moon

Well, I'll dance on a moonbeam and then

I will make a wish on a star

And I'll wish I was home once again

Though I'd like to look down at the earth from above

I would miss all the places and people I love

So although I may go I'll be coming home soon

'Cause I don't want to live on the moon

No, I don't want to live on the moon

An Italian pop song.... Mi Scappa La Pipi, Papa. (My pee is escaping dad). The chorus translates as:

    My pee is escaping dad.

I can't hold on any longer.

I'm going to do it here.

Such a horrible song. Surprisingly, it is the most requested song at Italian parties and weddings here :P
