Do chinchillas and rabbits get on?

I got 2 chinchillas today and they are in the same cage as my rabbit ( its a big cage don't worry ) and I'm wondering if they will fight when I'm sleeping? And is it okay if they eat eachothers food or will that harm them? and any other advice would be muchly greatly appreciated. Taaaah (: I x

It really depends on your animals. I had a dog, cat, rabbit, and flock of chickens all running around the same property and non of them bothered the other. Our dog never chased the chickens or the rabbit or the cat, the rabbit never ran from the dog, or cat, and chased the chickens.

And the dog was a golden retriever, and to prove she wasn't just dumb, she will chase any new chicken we add to the flock, or a rabbit that she isn't used to, or even a cat she never has seen before.

So it all depends on your animals.

They need to be kept separate at all times. Take them out of your rabbit's cage immediately. Fighting is likely, and most rabbits are pasteurella carriers (which can be fatal to chinchillas). Due to rabbits' powerful hind legs, they can fracture a chinchilla's spine even in play with a single kick. Their dietary needs also differ, and they should not be allowed to eat one another's food.

Rabbits can carry pasturella which is fatal in chinchillas. Please do not let your rabbit and chinchilla interact. You can still get both the rabbit and chinchilla and give equal attention to both at different playtimes. Also, something else to think about is if your rabbit and chinchilla have playtime together and your rabbit kicks the chinchilla he/she could kill your chinchilla in one kick. They have very powerful legs. I have 3 chinchilla in 3 seperate cages and give playtimes every other night. I manage to keep each of them happy by giving divided attention.

I do not recommend you feed the same food to each. The rabbits may fight with the chinchillas, keep in mind, chinchillas are very fragile and delicate, use extreme care with them, they can break bones easily. Chinchillas are all fluff, they are very skinny and bony under all that fur.
