Glucosamine and chondroitin recommendations please, for dachshund?

Oscar, my 10 year old weiner dog, had a back problem about a year ago. Thankfully steroids and anti-inflammatories were enough to get him back to feeling well. We've got doggy stairs inside and I carry him over large jumps when playing outside.

I started giving him glocosamine and chondroitin as a preventative treatment, but he doesn't like the chewables I bought. He'll eat them, but it takes a bit of coaxing. Does anyone have advice on good tasting tablets?

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are not very effective without MSM being included in the mix. MSM makes the other two ingredients more bioavailable to the dog.

Buy a MSM, glucosamine and chondroitin powder or tablets and mix them with the dogs food. There's very little product in the treats you can buy....not enough to make a difference.

My vet told us to get him the glucosamine/chondroitin for our boxer and give 1000/800 mg per day. I think it has helped but check with your vet on the dose.

Give your vet a call about this before you buy any more glucosamine and chondroitan. It was revealed some years back that these supplements have very little, if any at all, effect on arthritis. You may be wasting your money on something that isn't going to help.

We buy ours in powder form from Blue Mountain Herbs. I just add to our dogs meals w/ some warm water, it dissolves completely, and they don't even know it's in their food!

They work WONDERS for Arthritis by the way, Lizzy.....

Another GREAT supplement is MSM, it is AMAZING for Arthritis pain, we all take it daily in my family, humans, and K-9's, works better then ANY pain pill I have ever taken! We also buy it from Blue Mountain Herbs in bulk. Hope this helps!!
