If i install windows XP to my vista laptop, will it break the drivers for the touch pad?
I want to format my hard drive on my ACER laptop, because it is running very slowly, and I am probably going to install windows XP, but me and my family are worried that it will remove the drivers that let the touch pad work, as i don't know whether the touch pad is built in like a connected mouse and will just work on start up, or if it is just there and needs drivers to work.
Does anybody know if it is safe or not?

The touch pad will not break or get damaged in any way when you install xp alongside your vista installation. But you may need to download and install the drivers necessary for the XP to run properly...
For Ex. Sound Drivers, Video Drivers, Network tcp/ip drivers..and yes you may have to install the touchpad's drivers as well. Go to your http://support.acer.com/us/en/default.aspx and select your laptop with xp as your OS and you may get a list of all the drivers that you might need.. Good Luck with the installation!

I recommend installing the OS that was originally installed on the computer. If you really must install XP then you should check out the manufacturer's web site. Some don't have XP drivers for computers that came with Vista or 7 as their OS.
XP is something like 10 years old now and doesn't support the latest advances in technology. It would be unwise to install it now that it's out of mainstream support.

You might want to look at device mngr and find the name of the pad. Or go to the mfg web site and look up that model and check available drivers. It will most likely start up and work as a generic touchpad but if there is added functionality you will need the specific driver for it. Also you should have on hand all the drivers you will need on a thumb drive or disc so that you can installed them easily. For instance have your ethernet card driver for xp handy so that you can get right on the web to get the.rest.

you are able to set up Xp and delete vista. purely be careful or a minimum of diagnosis your laptops drivers first. demanding drivers to get are NIC/wifi/multiport. once you've an XP OEM license from yet another computing device, its no longer meant to have the capacity to be transferred to a special computing device. in easy words retail can do this. Wont harm to attempt even with the actuality that. Please be particular to create fix discs out of your vista even with the actuality that. maximum laptops do no longer contain fix discs and purely grant a fix partition and the potential to make fix discs.
